MEET THE DEVELOPER:
Meet Stu Maxwell, the lead talent behind Shape of the World. He shares his thoughts on why getting lost is an enjoyable experience that is neglected in life and video games.
Our CORE Team:
STU MAXWELL
Lead Developer
By day, Stuart is a VFX Artist for triple-A games where he makes battles feel epic, weapons feel powerful and blood feel sickeningly sweet. By night, he is more gentle folk where he focuses on his real loves of adventurous exploration and unexpected discoveries within the lush environment of Shape of the World.
Stuart’s past experiences as a UI and VFX Artist at Relic, spare-time video editor and always curious conceptualizer have lead him to this next adventure. As lead developer, Stuart is responsible for the creative direction, artistic production and technical development of the game as it shifts from two-dimensional concept paintings to a living, breathing world.
HEATHER MAXWELL
Producer
Architect by day, wearer of many hats by night. Heather is spearheading everything outside of the traditional game dev roles including marketing, design, reward production, admin, accountant, you name it. And she is Stu's favorite other half.
BRENT SILK
Sound and Music
Brent Silk is a graduate of Vancouver Film School and has since has been active in both the video game and film industries.
He is currently a sound designer at Microsoft Vancouver working secretly away on an unannounced project. Recently, and more publicly, he was at Skunkwerks Kinetic working on MEG:RVO, an action-adventure strategy game which picked up the Best Game Audio award from Indie Prize. He has also worked as a composer and foley artist on numerous Vancouver-made films. Brent is arranging our atmospheric audio FX and interactive soundtrack.
In his spare time, Brent runs the blog Sound Design Junkies, produces his own electronic music and repairs vintage game consoles.
ATHOMAS GOLDBERG
Creatures
Athomas is a man of many skills and a veteran of the computer graphics industry. With over 20 years of experience as an artist, researcher, animator and director, Athomas is lending his animation and programming expertise to Shape of the World.
Athomas is currently President at Lifelike & Believable Animation Design, Inc. and Founding Member of Pepper's Ghost Media & Performing Arts Collective and co-conspirator on a variety of side projects.
IRA (SHUO) ZHANG
3D Environment Artist
Ira is a great fit for the Shape of the World team because, like us, she believes less is more. She strives to express the most possible through simple silhouettes and punchy palettes. Ira loves experimenting with unique art styles and developing for more off-beat puzzle, survival and children’s games.
Ira recently graduated with a Master’s Degree in Digital Media from the Centre for Digital Media here in our home of Vancouver. You can view her growing portfolio on her website.
SASHA KATCHER
3D Character Artist
Sasha is a young, multi-media artist who creates creatures from alternate universes. She loves experimenting with with digital and traditional media, including animation, 3D printing, VR and lenticular prints (those plastic-coated, 3d images you tilt back and forth.) Make sure to check out her portfolio!
